Five steps

Your Path to Care

  1. Step 1: Schedule

Send an appointment request online or call 240-716-8022. A member of our team will contact you to confirm details, answer questions and share availability.

  2. Step 2: Complete Intake

You may be asked to complete intake paperwork before your first visit. This helps us understand your background so we can focus on you during the appointment.

  3. Step 3: First Visit

Your first visit is usually a psychiatric evaluation: a conversation about what brought you in, your history and your goals, in person or by telehealth when appropriate.

  4. Step 4: Personalized Care Plan

Together we’ll discuss options and create a plan that fits your needs and preferences. It may include therapy, medication management, education or referrals.

  5. Step 5: Follow-Up

Regular follow-up visits help us check how you’re doing and adjust your plan. You’re always welcome to ask questions or share concerns.

What to expect

At Your First Appointment

Your first visit is a conversation, not a test. You can share at your own pace.

  • A welcoming conversation about what brought you in
  • Questions about your health history, sleep, stress and daily life
  • Time to talk about your goals and preferences
  • A discussion of possible next steps and treatment options
  • Plenty of time for your questions

What to prepare

Helpful Things to Bring

None of these are required. They simply help make the most of your time.

  • Photo ID and insurance card, if applicable
  • A list of current medications and supplements
  • Any past diagnoses, treatment or records you have
  • Notes about your main concerns and when they started
  • Questions you’d like to ask

Questions to ask before your first appointment

Telehealth

When clinically appropriate, many visits can take place by secure video from home. Telehealth availability depends on the service, provider, patient location, licensure, and applicable requirements.

Insurance Questions

SBHS has been approved by Aetna, First Health and Coventry. Coverage and benefits vary by plan, so we recommend contacting us or your insurer to confirm your benefits before your first visit. You can also ask about self-pay options. This website does not accept payments.
